Shirdi is a town Panchayat, which comes under the jurisdiction of municipal council of Shirdi Nagar Panchayat. The town is exactly located in north side of Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra.

In earlier 19th Century, the Shirdi town is said to be the home town of the Shirdi Saint Sai Baba. The town is one of the most visited pilgrimage centre in India.

Location

Shirdi is located approximately 165 Kms from Ahmed Nagar and 300 Kms from Mumbai, the commercial capital of India. In other words, Shirdi is locally called as Saidesh (The Land of Sai). Shirdi has a new railway terminal from the year 2009, where the place named as Shirdi Nagar.

About Temple

Shirdi Town Panchayat is most famous for Shri Sai Baba Temple. The beautiful temple shrine was built upon the Samadhi of Shri Sai Baba. The temple was constructed and sacred in the year 1922 to carry out the services of Shri Sai Baba.

When the age of 16, Shri Sai Baba arrived at the village of Shirdi and he remained in the town for life span (till attained Samadhi). Shri Sai Baba found shelter in Khandoba temple, where the villager by the name Mahalsapathi in the temple called him as "Sai or Saint Sai baba".

Shri Sai Baba visited this world from the year 1838 to 1918, whose birth place and date of birth are unknown to the world till date. Shri Sai Baba was said to be an Indian spiritual guru and fakir, and he was regarded with great respect by both Hindu and Muslim Followers. At the old age, Shri Sai Baba spent his life in mosque and after his death he was cremated in temple.

Shri Sai Baba ingrained the philosophy of "Shraddha" meaning Faith and Saburi (which means tolerance). According to him Shraddha and Saburi were the two supreme attributes to attain the state of godliness.
